Is the S&P 500 a good investment?
I have been able to save enough for an emergency and have some extra money lying around. Instead of keeping the extra few hundred dollars in the bank, I am thinking about putting it in the S&P 500. It's not much money but I figure I should start investing anyway (25 y/o, single). Is it a good investment? Would you suggest something else?

As long as you know what companies make it into the S&P500 and how it works, it's a solid choice. Advantages: hands-off way to invest, you have several cheap ETFs that cover S&P500 (IVV, VOO, SPY), great way to diversify quickly and cheaply, good long-term performance.

If you're hands off, buying broad market US based ETF is great. But also consider adding global exposure unless you are all about investing in US.

It's a good one. I'd invest in it, keep it invested, and add to it over time!

@Remo515 I agree. Just stay invested and don't get in the habit of trading in and out of it.

Yes as long as your main approach is "set and forget". You are young and what matters is that you start investing early.
