On COBRA health insurance and want to switch to something much more affordable. Where should I look?
I've been on COBRA for about a year and it's up in 6 months. The COBRA insurance covers my family of 4 and it's close to $2K a month. I'm lucky I had saved up in my HSA and I have been able to use the HSA money to pay my monthly premiums. My husband freelances so the only way we will get "proper" insurance is if I go back to work or if we switch. I admit we should have looked into this sooner but with covid and all it's been on the back burner - it's just easier to stay with what's been offered. Where should I look next for a good family health insurance plan that's much less than what we're currently paying? Thanks a lot!!

My sister was in a similar situation and I remember her telling me she went through the government's marketplace. I found it here if it helps you - https://www.healthcare.gov/unemployed/cobra-coverage/. I hope that helps you!

Good for you for getting ahead of it despite a lot going on! Here are my quick recommendations: 1. Go to https://www.healthcare.gov/see-plans/#/ to compare Affordable Care Act compliant plans ("Marketplace" plan). You can start now by comparing to see what plans are available for your family and see how much less or more these options are versus your current COBRA plan 2. It Sounds like you are looking to switch plans when your COBRA runs out. If you are planning to end your COBRA early, you will have to see when your "open enrollment" period is. Usually you can’t change your plan until the next open enrollment period or your COBRA runs out. Good luck to you.

Are you unemployed? Sounds like you are, and your family is supported by your husband's freelance work? Might be worth looking into state offered plans if you qualify. I live in CA and we have something called medi-cal: https://www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/medi-cal/pages/whatismedi-cal.aspx
