@TrinX0G, I tend to do everything myself but there are times when I think having one makes sense. I would definitely go to fee-only advisors or planners like the XY planning network of fiduciary advisors if I were ever to hire one.

@TrinX0G, I do have a fee-only financial planner who is a fiduciary. When I decided to hire one I went to friend/family within my network but also went to NAPFA (The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors) to find a financial planner. I had a list of questions I went through with all of them. Competency and experience are important to me but also they have to think similarly to me and how I view the world. If your values clash, it'll be a short-lived relationship as that's happened to be before.

@TrinX0G, I ended up finding a financial coach who doesn't manage my money but what they did was helped me clarify my goals. I had a lot going on during the time and felt even more confused and uncertain about what decisions I should make. And I still speak with her every now and then, although not as often as I did 2 years ago. I found her through a family friend, so definitely tap into your network. The last thing I'll mention here is that there are many different types of advisors, such as those who focus primarily on retirement planning or investments or insurance or helping you put together a financial plan or simply a coach, such as the one I have.

@Briella135, you make a good point here and it's really good reason why to have a coach. Thanks for sharing this!
